Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, has accused the government of pursuing a vendetta against opposition members during a party gathering in Diyabeduma, Polonnaruwa. According to NewsFirst, Rajapaksa claimed that authorities have been attempting to remand party officials on questionable grounds.

Rajapaksa specifically referenced the case of the party's General Secretary, who faced efforts to secure remand over allegations of intimidating the Inspector General of Police. However, the court ultimately granted bail in the matter. Rajapaksa questioned the validity of the intimidation claim, noting that it originated from police sources themselves and suggesting that the IGP should be asked directly whether any intimidation actually occurred.

The opposition politician criticized what he characterized as a misplaced focus on prosecuting opposition members rather than investigating the circumstances that prompted the alleged statements. Rajapaksa challenged authorities to examine the underlying causes of the situation, questioning why inquiries have not been initiated into what motivated such statements or why certain feelings were hurt.
