Sri Lankan government institutions have begun a coordinated mosquito control programme as part of National Integrity Week, with efforts focused on eliminating breeding sites across public offices.

A nationwide mosquito control initiative has been implemented across all government institutions, with offices dedicating time to cleaning premises and removing potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The programme, coordinated by the Ministry of Health, forms part of the broader National Integrity Week observance, according to the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe.

The timing of the campaign reflects increasing concerns about the country's dengue transmission patterns. The National Dengue Control Unit has reported 84,091 dengue cases so far this year, alongside 61 dengue-related deaths recorded to date. These figures underscore the public health challenge facing the nation as the year progresses.

The initiative targets government workplaces as focal points for mosquito elimination efforts, with the expectation that institutional participation will help reduce breeding sites in densely populated areas. By mobilizing public sector facilities, authorities aim to demonstrate commitment to disease prevention while encouraging similar practices among the general population.
