Sri Lanka's premier international sailing competition begins in Trincomalee, bringing together athletes from six nations for the sixth consecutive edition of the Navy Commander's Cup.
The Sri Lanka Navy's annual Commander's Cup International Sailing Regatta 2026 commenced in Trincomalee, hosting one of the country's most significant maritime sporting events. The competition brings together sailing competitors from Bangladesh, Italy, China, India, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.
The opening ceremony took place under the supervision of Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage, Commander of the Eastern Naval Area, who officially marked the beginning of the international competition. This year's event marks the sixth consecutive edition of the regatta, which has established itself as a key fixture on Sri Lanka's international sporting calendar.
According to organizers, the Maharaja Media Network serves as the official media partner for the tournament. The regatta is expected to showcase competitive sailing across multiple categories and demonstrate the Sri Lanka Navy's commitment to promoting maritime sports internationally.
