The Sri Lanka Navy has recovered approximately 750,000 smuggled pharmaceutical capsules from an abandoned dinghy in the Puttalam lagoon during a routine operation.
Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya, operating under the Northwestern Naval Command, discovered a substantial cache of pharmaceutical capsules during a search operation conducted on Tuesday in the Puttalam lagoon. The 750,000 capsules were located aboard a small dinghy that had been left behind in the water.
According to the Navy's account, the vessel and its contents appear to have been abandoned following surveillance activities in the region. The circumstances surrounding the dinghy's abandonment suggest smugglers may have fled upon detecting the naval presence in the area.
Following the seizure, authorities transferred the pharmaceutical consignment to the Police Narcotic Bureau's Puttalam division for investigation and legal proceedings. The exact nature of the pharmaceutical capsules and their intended destination remain under examination.
