The Sri Lanka Navy has seized over 2.2 tonnes of smuggled Kendu leaves in a joint operation with police in Negombo, also impounding vehicles suspected to be involved in the trafficking.
Naval personnel working alongside police units conducted a search operation in Negombo that resulted in the interception of a substantial quantity of illicit Kendu leaves. The seizure totalled more than 2,276 kilograms of the contraband material during the operation.
Beyond the confiscation of the leaves themselves, authorities also impounded two dinghies and a lorry believed to have been utilised in facilitating the smuggling operation. The coordinated action demonstrates ongoing efforts by Sri Lankan security forces to combat illegal trade in restricted goods through port areas.
