Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne visited the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday to meet President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in what marked his first official engagement with the Head of State since assuming his position as the 26th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.
The meeting followed established protocol, with the newly appointed Army Commander making the courtesy call as part of a longstanding tradition whereby military leaders meet the President upon taking office. During the visit, both officials exchanged commemorative mementoes as a symbolic gesture of goodwill.
President Dissanayake extended his congratulations to Lieutenant General Premaratne on his recent appointment to the senior military position, according to a statement released by the President's Media Division. The engagement underscored the formal recognition of the military leadership transition and reaffirmed institutional continuity between the defence establishment and the highest office of the state.
