The revised annual bus fare revision takes effect today (06), with bus fares increasing by between 12% and 20%.The fare revision was approved by the National Transport Commission (NTC) last week.Accordingly, the minimum bus fare has been increased from Rs. 30 to Rs. 34. Fares for luxury buses and expressway bus services have also been revised.The NTC stated that bus operators and staff have been instructed on the new fare structure and advised to update their ticketing machines accordingly. Islandwide inspections will also begin today to ensure compliance with the revised fares.However, the Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA), Gemunu Wijeratne, said it would take another two days to complete the updating of ticketing machines.
