The National Transport Commission has announced plans to introduce comprehensive digital tracking technology across passenger transport buses to enhance safety and enforce regulatory compliance.

The National Transport Commission has unveiled a new digital monitoring initiative designed to track passenger buses throughout their entire operational routes. According to the Commission, the system will be implemented across the passenger transport sector within the current year, marking a significant shift toward technology-based fleet management.

The proposed system will capture multiple aspects of bus operations and conduct. Among the parameters to be monitored are vehicle performance metrics, passenger safety conditions, driver and conductor behaviour, speed management, and designated stopping points. This comprehensive approach aims to create a continuous oversight mechanism from the start of each journey until completion.

The Commission indicated that the digital platform will serve an enforcement function as well. Should the system detect activities that contravene transport regulations, authorities will pursue corrective measures, including issuing penalty points to offending operators and potentially revoking their permits to operate. The move appears designed to establish accountability within the passenger transport sector while simultaneously improving overall service standards and passenger protection.
