COLOMBO (News 1st): The government has revised a gazette notification for the sugar content levels of liquid food products. The gazette notification has been issued under the signature of Minister of Health, Nalinda Jayatissa.According to the new amendments, revised requirements have been introduced for labeling liquid food products based on sugar content, with mandatory colour-coded logos to be displayed on product packaging in accordance with the updated schedule.Accordingly, the sugar content per 100 milliliters represented by the red color has been reduced from 11 grams to 8 grams.According to the new gazette, the sugar percentage indicated by the amber color has also been reduced to a range of 2.5 to 8 grams per 100 milliliters.Under the new amendments, the sugar content indicated by green color must be less than 2.5 grams.In addition, the new amendments include alternative methods for displaying the relevant symbols on packaging.
