A newly constructed transport facility valued at Rs. 835 million has been officially opened in Kegalle, bringing together multiple Sri Lanka Transport Board operations under one location.

A comprehensive depot complex has been inaugurated in Kegalle as part of broader efforts to modernize Sri Lanka's public transport infrastructure. The facility, constructed at a cost of Rs. 835 million, consolidates several key transport operations in the region.

The complex houses the Sabaragamuwa Regional Office of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, along with the SLTB Driver Training College and the Kegalle branch of the National Transport Medical Institute. These three components represent a significant concentration of transport administration and training capabilities in the district.

Beyond administrative functions, the facility incorporates multiple operational components designed to enhance service delivery. An auditorium, operations section, staff rest area with contemporary amenities, accounts office and other administrative spaces provide supporting infrastructure. The complex also features an expanded canteen and enlarged parking area to accommodate additional SLTB buses.

The site includes dedicated support services for fleet maintenance and operations. A fuel station for SLTB vehicles has been established on the premises, alongside a bus repair workshop equipped with modern tools and equipment. These additions aim to streamline maintenance operations and reduce downtime for the public transport fleet.
