COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department for Registration of Persons states that it is expediting the issuance of National Identity Cards (NICs) for students sitting the G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations this year.Its Director General, Jagath Herath, stated that the department expects to issue permanent National Identity Cards to all students before the end of this year.He further mentioned that all schools have been informed through the Ministry of Education to submit applications for the preparation of NICs for students sitting the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.Principals must take steps to forward those applications to the Department for Registration of Persons without delay.He also stated that students who are due to sit the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination this coming August, and who have applied for an NIC but have not yet received it, can obtain their identity cards by notifying the department through the telephone numbers or email addresses listed on the department’s website.
