As the number of drowning deaths in the country continues to rise, the police have asked the public to be extra cautious near rivers, reservoirs, waterfalls and other water bodies during the Poson holiday. Speaking on the occasion of Poson, Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Woodler said, Water-related accidents have increased recently. Police lifeguards have been deployed across the country to assist the public during the holiday season. We appeal to the public to act responsibly to avoid water-related accidents. So far in 2026, about 75 people have drowned. Safety instructions should be followed while visiting water attractions during this festive season. Lifeguards are operating in 31 out of 48 police divisions across the country. We inform the public to obey the warning signs posted at dangerous places and to seek help from lifeguards whenever needed. No one should enter the water bodies after consuming alcohol or drugs. Plainclothes officers have been deployed at many water attractions. Legal action will be taken against those who violate the law. Also, parents should closely monitor children in swimming pools and other water attractions during the holiday season. Meanwhile, more than 10,000 officers have been deployed across the country to ensure public safety during the Poson festival, including actions against traffic and public nuisance crimes. Strict legal action will be taken against motorists using motorcycles or three-wheelers modified to make excessive noise. We will not allow motorcycles or three-wheelers to use harsh, disruptive or frightening sound effects that cause inconvenience to the public. Legal action will also be taken against motorcycles with modified silencers to create excessive noise and vehicles using loud sound systems. Both the motorcycle rider and the passenger must wear protective helmets. Failure to wear a helmet will result in a case being filed against both the driver and the passenger. Motorcycles should not carry more passengers than legally permitted.  Reckless driving will not be tolerated. Also, when going out during the Poson holidays, do not leave elderly family members at home alone. They could become targets or victims of crime. Pay attention to the security of your home, your vehicle and the places you go.
