The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has expressed concern that media reports or criticisms made by the government or government agencies are being made in a way that undermines the independence of the judiciary and undermines the basic structure of democracy.
The independence of the judiciary and public confidence in the judiciary are indispensable pillars for protecting the rule of law and the democratic structure.
Therefore, the association has pointed out that it is very important that the judiciary functions independently and that its activities are carried out in a way that the public realizes that it is not subject to any pressure or interference.
