The proposed international cricket stadium project in Jaffna has been scaled back due to the current financial constraints of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC). Sri Lanka Cricket Board Honorary Secretary Prakash Shafter said that the project, which initially included an international cricket stadium, a sports city and housing projects, is now under review. He noted that while the aim of improving cricket infrastructure in Jaffna continues, there is not enough financial capacity to carry out a complete international stadium project, considering the current financial situation. As a result, it has been reported that in the future, the focus will be only on developing a cricket stadium in Jaffna, and the initially planned sports city and housing projects may be abandoned. He said that although most of the regulatory approvals have already been obtained, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board is continuously reviewing the final form and investment amount of the project.
