Sri Lanka Cricket has announced a 16-member squad for the first Test against India starting August 15, featuring the return of Niroshan Dickwella as wicketkeeper in the absence of the injured Kusal Mendis.
Sri Lanka Cricket has unveiled its squad for the opening Test encounter with India, scheduled to begin on August 15 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The fixture will serve as the first match of a two-Test series that contributes to the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle.
Dhananjaya de Silva will lead the side as captain, with Kamindu Mendis serving as vice-captain. The squad features the return of experienced wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella to the Test format. His inclusion comes with Kusal Mendis ruled out due to injury, while opening batter Pathum Nissanka is also absent from the lineup.
The batting unit comprises Lahiru Udara, Nishan Madushka, Dinesh Chandimal, Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Sonal Dinusha among others. The spin bowling department includes Ramesh Mendis, Prabath Jayasuriya, and Keshara Nuwantha, while the pace attack features Milan Rathnayake, Asitha Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando and Dilshan Madushanka.
The squad selection reflects Sri Lanka's attempt to balance experience with fresh talent as the team prepares for a challenging home series against India.
