The Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that it is planned to issue appointments to 2,847 nurses in October this year. The Minister stated this while participating in a ceremony to award caps and recognize the commitment to service to the student nurses of the 2021 batch of the Colombo Nursing Training School. The event was held at the Temple Trees premises this morning (25). The Minister also indicated that it is planned to issue nursing appointments to 1,949 in March 2028 and 2,920 in August. He added that it is planned to recruit 13,600 people for the nursing service by 2030 and that 50% of that target is expected to be met before the end of this year. The Minister also noted that the government has taken steps to increase the salaries of all those joining the nursing service.
