COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Census and Statistics says online data collection for the non-agricultural sector of the Economic Census commenced today. Additional Director General of the Census and Statistics Division, Wasana Jayakody, stated that data collection will continue until July 15.She noted that registration is mandatory for businesses in the trade, industrial, and services sectors that employ more than 50 workers. The Economic Census is being conducted in two phases to separately cover agricultural and non-agricultural economic activities. Accordingly, agricultural activities were surveyed in 2025, while the census of non-agricultural activities is being carried out in 2026.The last Economic Census in Sri Lanka was conducted during 2013 and 2014.
