An open verdict has been issued following the post-mortem examination of renowned model Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana, 45, who was found dead at a businessman's residence in Piliyandala. The examination revealed no external or internal injuries, with further forensic testing underway.
The death of well-known model Chulpadmendra Kumarapathirana has been classified as an open verdict after autopsy findings proved inconclusive. The 45-year-old was discovered unresponsive on a bed at a residence in Thumbowila, Piliyandala, on August 31. Medical personnel confirmed her death when they arrived at the scene after being called at approximately 12:45 p.m.
According to police accounts, Kumarapathirana had attended an event she organized in Battaramulla on August 30 before traveling to the businessman's house in the early morning hours of the following day. She retired to a bedroom at the residence, where she was later found unresponsive. The post-mortem examination conducted at Kalubowila Teaching Hospital by Judicial Medical Officer Dr. B.C.M. Rodrigo revealed neither external nor internal injuries on her body.
The investigation gained additional significance when a bloodstain was discovered on the bedsheet where Kumarapathirana had been sleeping. Both the businessman and her mother subsequently filed complaints with Piliyandala Police, prompting formal inquiries. Samples collected during the examination have been forwarded to the Government Analyst for forensic analysis as investigations remain ongoing under the supervision of Chief Inspector Chaminda Kulasinghe at Piliyandala Police Station.
