The Consumer Affairs Authority has conducted a raid on an illegal pharmaceutical warehouse in Colombo, uncovering medicines valued at more than Rs. 10 million that were brought into the country without proper authorization.

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized a substantial cache of unregistered pharmaceuticals from a warehouse in Havelock Town, Colombo. The operation resulted in the confiscation of medicines and medical equipment with an estimated value exceeding Rs. 10 million, which investigators determined had been imported illegally into Sri Lanka.

According to the CAA, the raid uncovered more than 100 different varieties of unauthorized medicines and medical products. The seized items included treatments for serious medical conditions such as cancer and heart disease, indicating the scope and potential danger posed by the illegal importation network.

The Consumer Affairs Authority has emphasized that the distribution and sale of unregistered, unauthorized, or substandard medicines represents a significant public health risk. The authority has called on members of the public to report any information regarding individuals or organizations engaged in the illegal sale of medicines and other health-related products that could harm citizens. Such reports can be made to the CAA's 1977 hotline during office hours.
