Authorities arrested a 38-year-old man in Wellampitiya following a raid that recovered significant quantities of heroin and crystal methamphetamine, along with cash suspected to be drug trafficking proceeds.
Law enforcement officers conducted a search operation in Sedawatta, Wellampitiya on September 2, resulting in the apprehension of a local resident suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. The Colombo Divisional Crime Division recovered 4.17 kilograms of heroin and 8.055 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly referred to as "Ice," from the suspect's residence, according to police statements.
In addition to the narcotics, authorities seized Rs. 300,000 in cash believed to have been obtained through illicit drug sales. The suspect, identified as a 38-year-old Sedawatta resident, was taken into custody for further questioning regarding the seized substances.
During interrogation, the suspect provided information suggesting that the drugs had been supplied through a larger trafficking network. Police indicated that a major drug trafficker believed to be operating from overseas was connected to the supply chain, though specific details about this connection remain under investigation.
The Colombo Divisional Crime Division has continued its inquiry into the matter, with investigators working to identify additional individuals potentially involved in the distribution network and to trace the source of the narcotics.
