Sri Lankan police carried out special operations across the island yesterday, inspecting over 26,500 individuals and arresting 490 people on suspicion of involvement in various criminal activities.

Sri Lanka Police conducted comprehensive island-wide operations yesterday that resulted in the arrest of 490 individuals suspected of criminal involvement. During the enforcement drive, police inspected a total of 26,868 people across the country.

According to police statements, 24 individuals were identified as having direct links to criminal activities. The operation also led to the apprehension of 228 persons wanted under day warrants and 148 individuals wanted under open warrants, contributing significantly to the overall arrest figures.

Beyond criminal investigations, the operations focused on road safety enforcement. Police arrested 37 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and took 92 others into custody for reckless driving. Additionally, legal action was initiated against 4,036 individuals for various traffic violations discovered during the inspections.

The large-scale operation reflects police efforts to address multiple areas of public safety and criminal activity simultaneously across the nation.
