Sri Lankan police arrested 587 individuals during daily search operations across the country, with over 27,000 people inspected as part of efforts to combat crime and drug-related offences.

Police conducted island-wide search operations yesterday that resulted in the arrest of 587 suspects involved in various criminal activities and drug-related offences. The operations led to the inspection of 27,773 individuals across the country, according to police statements.

Among those taken into custody, 13 individuals were identified as being directly involved in criminal activities, while 138 individuals with outstanding warrants were also apprehended during the coordinated operations. These arrests formed part of ongoing police efforts to address crime throughout the island.

The operations also focused on traffic violations and road safety. Police arrested 65 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and 114 for reckless driving. Additionally, legal action was initiated against 4,521 individuals for other traffic-related offences, highlighting the broad scope of the enforcement drive.
