Sri Lankan police have arrested 437 suspects during island-wide operations targeting criminal activity and drug offences, with over 33,000 individuals checked during a single day of enforcement.

Law enforcement authorities conducted extensive search operations across Sri Lanka, resulting in the apprehension of 437 individuals suspected of involvement in criminal and drug-related activities. The operations, which targeted crime prevention across the island, involved the screening of more than 33,000 people during a single day of enforcement activities.

According to police statements, 15 of those arrested were directly linked to criminal offences, while an additional 135 suspects with outstanding warrants were brought into custody. The operations also yielded significant results in traffic enforcement, with 65 individuals arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 68 others taken into custody for reckless driving violations.

Beyond the arrests, police initiated legal proceedings against 4,189 individuals for various traffic-related infractions discovered during the sweeping operations. The large-scale enforcement effort represents part of ongoing efforts by authorities to address criminal activity and improve road safety across the country.
