Sri Lankan police arrested 508 individuals during yesterday's island-wide operations as part of the 'A Nation United' national anti-drug programme, with inspections affecting over 27,000 people.
Police conducted extensive operations across Sri Lanka on the 6th, resulting in the arrest of 508 individuals as part of the ongoing 'A Nation United' initiative, a national programme targeting drug-related offences and criminal activity.
The scale of the enforcement action was substantial, with officers subjecting approximately 27,054 individuals to inspection during the day-long operations. According to police statements, 20 of those arrested were identified as suspects with direct involvement in criminal offences, while a further 142 individuals were apprehended on the basis of outstanding warrants issued against them.
Beyond drug-related arrests, the operations also targeted traffic violations and public safety concerns. Police reported that 65 individuals were taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol, and another 122 were arrested for reckless driving, suggesting the enforcement action extended beyond narcotics to broader public safety issues.
The 'A Nation United' programme represents a sustained effort by authorities to combat drug trafficking and related criminal activity across the island, with these daily operations forming a core component of the government's anti-narcotics strategy.
