King Charles III has decided not to move into the historic Buckingham Palace in London, Britain, as a 10-year renovation project is due to be completed next year. The palace, which has been the main residence of British monarchs for the past two centuries, has come to an end. Clarence House Royal officials have said that King Charles will continue to live in his current residence, Clarence House, and that Buckingham Palace will continue to function as a royal headquarters for official events and foreign leaders, as usual. The palace's electrical wiring and plumbing are being replaced at a cost of 369 million pounds (about $487 million). Meanwhile, for the first time in British history, King Charles' tax details have been made public. He paid 12.9 million pounds (about 17 million dollars) in income tax in the 2024-2025 financial year. This puts him in the list of the top 100 highest-tax payers in Britain.

Although the British monarch is not legally required to pay tax, he has paid this tax voluntarily.

The details have been officially announced in an effort to increase transparency following criticism of the royal family's finances following the death of Queen Elizabeth in 2022.
