Sri Lanka's Public Health Inspectors' Union is weighing strike action after one of its members was transferred following allegations of fraud and corruption at the Airport Health Office.
The Public Health Inspectors' Union of Sri Lanka is deliberating whether to launch an island-wide strike in response to the transfer of a union member. According to Acting President Upul Rohana, the union's Executive Committee convened to make a final determination on the proposed industrial action.
The transfer in question involves a Public Health Inspector who had submitted a statement to the Health Ministry's Investigation Unit regarding suspected fraud and corruption at the Airport Health Office. The union contends that the transfer was executed without adhering to standard administrative protocols.
Rohana indicated that discussions held during the committee meeting would determine whether strike action would commence the following day. The union has framed the transfer as potentially retaliatory, suggesting it may constitute an inappropriate response to the inspector's cooperation with investigators.
