Yesterday’s announcement by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake caused a stir in Sri Lankan politics. In his speech to Parliament yesterday, he said, “Isn’t there a fear of white vans in the country? A man who opposed the demolition of his garden was abducted in a white van without license plates.”
These are not civil conflicts. A small group of people have committed these brutal murders for their own political interests. We are certainly obliged to uphold the law against these heinous crimes.
In this situation, it has been reported that important evidence related to the white van abduction has been removed from the Trincomalee Naval Base.
The Trincomalee Naval Base itself had a list of those being abducted or kidnapped. It is reported that these were made public in 2015.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that an evidence related to these has also been found.
It is also stated that this issue has created a huge crisis for former armed group leaders Pillayan (Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan), Karuna Amman (Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan) and Iniya Bharathi.
