A suspected crystal methamphetamine ("Ice") trafficker has been arrested by the Police Special Rapid Response Unit stationed in Kandakuliya, police said.The suspect was taken into custody following intelligence received by the Puttalam Police Special Rapid Response Unit. Officers recovered a stock of crystal methamphetamine valued at more than Rs. 100,000 from his possession.Police said that while the suspect was in custody, the unit received 76 telephone calls from individuals attempting to purchase the drug.The suspect, a resident of Kandakuliya, is believed to be a major distributor who supplied crystal methamphetamine to several areas, including Kalpitiya, using a motorcycle to transport the narcotics.Investigations have also revealed that he allegedly supplied the drug to users, including fishermen and other individuals addicted to crystal methamphetamine.According to police, the suspect has been arrested on several previous occasions for offences involving crystal methamphetamine and other narcotics and had been remanded in custody.The suspect has been handed over to the Kalpitiya Police for further investigations and is scheduled to be produced before court.
