A 28-year-old police constable attached to the Walana Central Anti Vice Striking Force died after shooting himself with his service weapon at a police station early Wednesday morning.
A police constable has died following a self-inflicted gunshot incident at a police station. The 28-year-old officer, who was stationed at the Walana Central Anti Vice Striking Force, sustained fatal injuries when he shot himself with his T-56 assault rifle near the main gate of the station in the early hours of Wednesday.
The constable, a resident of Peradeniya, was taken to Panadura Base Hospital following the incident but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police confirmed the circumstances of the death and are investigating the matter further.
