Sri Lanka Police have taken steps today (17) to suspend a police constable who allegedly sat on the lap of a female police constable at the Makalugaswewa Police Station, while under the influence of alcohol.The police constable in question had reported for duty at a musical concert held at the Dambulla Gamudawa Stadium on July 15 and had later returned to the Makalugaswewa Police Station to resume duties.According to reports, upon seeing the female police constable seated on a chair at the station, the police constable had proceeded to sit on her lap.Following the incident, the female police officer had lodged a complaint with the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of the area through the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the police station.A subsequent investigation conducted into the incident revealed that the police constable had been under the influence of alcohol at the time.Accordingly, following the inquiry into the alleged harassment of the female police constable and the officer’s conduct while intoxicated during duty hours, steps were taken to suspend the services of the police constable concerned.
