Authorities have lifted a police curfew imposed in three residential divisions near Mahara Prison following unrest among inmates. Twenty prisoners have been transferred to another facility as investigations continue.

Sri Lanka Police have lifted the curfew that was enforced in three Grama Niladhari divisions surrounding the Mahara Prison complex. The curfew, which had been in place since the previous day, covered the areas of 246 Kendaliyadda Road West, 246 C Kendaliyadda Road North, and 181 G Dambuwa, all located within the Ragama Police Division.

The restrictions were imposed following an outbreak of unrest at the prison facility. According to police statements, the incident resulted in significant damage to prison infrastructure. In response, the Department of Prisons transferred 20 inmates from Mahara Prison to Boossa Prison.

Security personnel remain stationed within and around the prison complex as authorities conduct ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the disturbance. Officials have not yet released detailed information about the cause of the unrest or the full extent of the disruptions that occurred.
