Sri Lankan police are investigating the killing of a businessman with alleged connections to organized crime leader Kanjipani Imran, while also pursuing suspects arrested in Malaysia in connection with criminal networks.

Kotahena Police have brought details before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court regarding the fatal shooting of Mohamed Aspi Mohideen, a hardware store owner at Sangharaja Mawatha. The victim was reportedly connected to Kanjipani Imran, an alleged organized crime gang leader. According to police accounts presented to Additional Magistrate Liyan Varusha Vithana, two unidentified gunmen carried out the attack, shooting Mohideen in the head and neck.

Investigators have indicated that identifying the perpetrators remains a priority, with police currently unable to establish the suspects' identities despite ongoing inquiries. The Colombo Additional Magistrate has directed police to expedite their investigation and provide regular updates to the court on progress in the case.

Separately, Airport Police have produced two suspects before the Negombo Magistrate's Court following their extradition from Malaysia. The two men, identified as Laddu-Handige Lasantha Lakmal Silva and Viyanage Ishan Shalinda Kumara, were arrested in Malaysia while staying with Rathmalane Saima, another associate of Kanjipani Imran's criminal network. Additional Magistrate Subhani Abeysekara ordered both suspects remanded until August 17 and instructed police to continue their investigation.

Meanwhile, Rathmalane Saima himself remains in custody at Peradeniya Police under a 48-hour detention order, following his appearance before the Kandy Magistrate's Court. The coordinated police operations suggest an ongoing crackdown on individuals allegedly connected to organized crime activities in Sri Lanka.
