Police have launched an investigation after two unidentified suspects allegedly threw a parcel containing drugs and other prohibited items into the Galle Prison premises and fled the scene. The investigation was launched by Galle Police based on information received by the Police Special Bureau. The suspects are believed to have thrown the parcel into the prison from an area near the railway yard behind the prison. Police recovered the parcel and found 2,180 milligrams of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), tobacco and 49 lighters concealed inside. Police suspect the parcel was intended for prison inmates and had been thrown over the prison wall in an attempt to smuggle the prohibited items into the facility. Galle Police is conducting further investigations to identify and arrest the suspects. (Newswire)
