A 41-year-old organised crime suspect wanted under Red Notices has been arrested in Malaysia and extradited to Sri Lanka, along with two associates, following a coordinated operation with Malaysian authorities and Interpol.
A 41-year-old resident of Ratmalana has been apprehended in Malaysia and returned to Sri Lanka to face multiple criminal charges, according to the Police Media Division. The operation, conducted jointly with Malaysian police and Interpol, resulted in the suspect's extradition on Monday. He was wanted under Red Notices in connection with serious offences spanning over a decade.
The primary suspect faces charges related to two separate cases registered with the Kandy Magistrate's Court. The first involves the alleged abduction and assault of an individual using firearms in the Peradeniya police area in 2014, while the second pertains to a fatal shooting incident in the same district in 2016. Open warrants had been issued against him after he repeatedly failed to appear for court proceedings.
Beyond these recent charges, the suspect's criminal history extends further back. He was arrested in 2003 for robbery in the Mount Lavinia police area and faced prosecution before the Colombo High Court. Four years later, in 2007, Mount Lavinia Police arrested him on allegations of possessing an illegal hand grenade.
Two additional individuals—a 35-year-old from Ratmalana and a 31-year-old from Mount Lavinia—were also detained in Malaysia alongside the main suspect and subsequently brought back to Sri Lanka. Both remain under investigation. The Inspector General of Police is directly overseeing the ongoing inquiries into all three suspects.
