Authorities have detained a 21-year-old man on suspicion of assisting in the fatal shooting of the mother of organized crime figure Bako Saman, according to police statements.
Law enforcement officials have apprehended a 21-year-old resident of Udahakada in Middeniya in connection with the death of the mother of known drug trafficker and organized crime figure Bako Saman. The suspect was initially taken into custody on August 19 by Middeniya Police officers following the discovery of heroin in his possession.
During subsequent interrogation, investigators determined that the suspect had allegedly provided material assistance in relation to the fatal shooting, according to police. The Walasmulla Magistrate's Court granted authorities permission to detain and question the suspect, and he has now been remanded in custody until September 2 as investigations continue.
The victim was killed on August 12 at approximately 6:00 p.m. when two unidentified assailants arrived by motorcycle and fired shots before departing the scene. The woman sustained severe injuries in the attack and was transported to hospital, where she subsequently died from her wounds. Bako Saman, the victim's son and a person of interest to authorities for his involvement in organized crime and drug trafficking activities, is currently imprisoned at the high-security Boossa Prison facility.
