A senior official working in the Presidential Secretariat has been arrested on charges of making fake passports to help a suspect from an organised crime group flee the country.
According to police, the 41-year-old official, who is working as a Senior Assistant Secretary in the Parliamentary and Cabinet Affairs Division of the Presidential Secretariat, was arrested by officers of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau (CCIB) on Friday.
Investigations have revealed that during his time as the former Deputy Controller of the Overseas Representation Division of the Immigration and Emigration Department, he made fake passports using the identity of another person and helped a suspect from an organised crime group flee the country.
The Central Bureau of Investigation is conducting further investigations into this incident.
