The Port of Colombo has received its first vessel from Hongkong Jihang International Shipping Co., Ltd, establishing a new shipping service that connects Sri Lanka with major trading partners across Asia and the Red Sea region.

The arrival of MV JI ZHE 6 at the Colombo International Container Terminal on Monday marks the official commencement of operations by Hongkong Jihang International Shipping Co., Ltd in Sri Lankan waters. According to maritime officials, the vessel's maiden call represents a significant development for the country's shipping sector and reinforces Colombo's standing as a key transshipment hub in South Asia.

The new service is designed to enhance cargo connectivity between Sri Lanka and several important regional markets, including India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, China, and the Red Sea region. By establishing this route, the shipping company aims to improve trade flows through the Port of Colombo and support the country's position within regional maritime networks.

Hongkong Jihang Shipping has appointed Ocean Lanka Lines (Pvt) Ltd, a subsidiary of ILM Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, as its exclusive local representative. Ocean Lanka Lines will manage the shipping line's agency operations, commercial activities, and day-to-day operations in Sri Lanka. A plaque exchange ceremony was held aboard the vessel to commemorate the inaugural call, attended by representatives from the shipping company, the container terminal, and the local agent.
