The Acting President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Association, Upul Rohana, stated that a large number of Dhansals have been registered islandwide so far in anticipation of the upcoming Poshan Poya Day.
He noted that a higher number of Dhansals have been registered compared to Vesak Poya Day, and a higher number of Dhansals have been registered in the North Central Province.
Pointing out that it is important to avoid the use of plastic and polythene when conducting these Dhansals, he also mentioned that special attention will be paid to hot drinks and food served using plastic utensils and inspections will be conducted.
He pointed out that since storing hot and cold foods in polythene bags is very dangerous, more attention should be paid to this matter.
He also pointed out that since the dengue epidemic is prevalent these days, the use of polythene for dhansals may have a direct impact on it, and while sharing his views, he added that more attention should be paid to plastic and polythene when distributing dhansals.
In previous occasions, we have seen plastic cups used to serve drinks, especially in coffee and soft drink dhansals, being thrown in visible places. Therefore, we request you to pay special attention to it. Because there is a risk of dengue mosquitoes breeding in such discarded containers, as water accumulates in them, he said.
