COLOMBO (News 1st): The Presidential Commission appointed to investigate coal transactions will begin hearing evidence starting tomorrow.The number of complaints received by the commission is 28.Today also marks the end of the deadline given to complainants to submit detailed reports regarding the matters contained in those complaints.The secretary of the commission, D. V. Bandulasena, stated that statements have already been recorded from over one hundred people.This group includes a number of state officials, including former ministry secretaries.President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed this full-powered Presidential Commission, chaired by Supreme Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga, to investigate all coal transactions that have taken place in the country.The other members are Court of Appeal Judge Aditya Patabendige and High Court Judge Sanjeewa Somaratne.
