The President's Fund has initiated a scholarship scheme targeting children of low-income lottery sales assistants, beginning with a launch event in the North Central Province and plans for nationwide expansion.

The President's Fund unveiled a new scholarship initiative aimed at supporting the education of children from families involved in lottery sales. The programme's inaugural event took place in Anuradhapura, with Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne presiding over the ceremony. Minister Susil Ranasinghe and senior officials including President's Fund Secretary Roshan Gamage were also present at the launch.

The scheme will provide educational support to students from primary level through to GCE Advanced Level examinations. According to organisers, the programme recognises the contribution that lottery sales assistants make to the President's Fund through their work in ticket sales. Officials indicated that the initiative, which commenced this year, represents an appreciation gesture towards this workforce segment.

Speaker Wickramaratne emphasised that funds received by the organisation would be allocated towards assisting people in need. He also noted the President's Fund's five-decade history and stated that it has evolved into a community-focused institution over the past year. The scholarship programme, which began in the North Central Province, is planned for expansion across all provinces nationwide, indicating a broader rollout strategy beyond the initial launch region.
