The Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya offered condolence to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday 15, July 2026 at Lusail Palace in Qatar on the passing away of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.The Prime Minister also recalled the contributions of the late, HH the Father Amir to Qatar and forwards the strengthening of the bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and Qatar.The Prime Minister also offered condolences to His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani, HE Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani, HH Personal Representative of the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, His Excellency Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa Al-Thani, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, and HE the Speaker of the Shura Council H.E. Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim.Also present were a number of Their Excellencies the sons of the late Father Amir and Their Excellencies the SheikhsFollowing the audience at Lusail Palace, the Prime Minister conveyed her condolences to Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the spouse of the late HH the Father Amir and the mother of His Highness the Amir. She is also the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation. The Prime Minister further extended her condolences to Her Highness Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani and Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, daughters of the late HH the Father Amir, and to Her Excellency Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Social Development and Family, as well as other members of the Royal Family, during a visit to Al Wajba Palace on the same day.The visit was solely focused on expressing condolences on behalf the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the government, the people of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan community in Qatar, recognizing and respecting the late HH the Father Amir's contributions that extended far beyond economic cooperation, encompassing diplomatic support, education, and people-to-people ties that continue to shape bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Qatar.The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Member of Parliament, Rishad Badiudeen; the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar, Sithara Khan; and the Head of Chancery and Counsellor, Dulanji Herath.Prior to her departure from Qatar, the Prime Minister visited the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Doha.
