Speaking at the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi celebrations, she highlighted how the Prophet's emphasis on peace, equality, compassion, justice, and mutual respect remain applicable to contemporary society.
Dr. Amarasuriya identified the Prophet's commitment to justice, religious coexistence, and universal well-being as lessons that modern society should draw upon. She stressed that amid ongoing armed conflicts claiming civilian lives, the Prophet's message underscores the importance of placing compassion and peaceful coexistence at the core of human relations.
The Prime Minister emphasized the particular significance of these principles for Sri Lanka, where people of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds coexist. She called for increased empathy and mutual respect to strengthen the nation's social cohesion. Dr. Amarasuriya expressed hope for an end to war and violence, and prayed for those displaced and affected by humanitarian crises to find peace and security.
The remarks were delivered at the National Milad-un-Nabi celebration held at Al Hilal National School in Periyamulla, Negombo.
