A newly established commission tasked with reforming Sri Lanka's public sector compensation systems will begin operations tomorrow, opening its doors to receive input from stakeholders and the public.
The Commission on Public Sector Salaries and Pensions will officially commence operations on June 4th, with its office opening at 10:00 a.m. at Malalasekara Mawatha in Colombo 07. The body was established following a directive from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to overhaul existing salary and pension frameworks within the public service.
According to the President's Media Division, the Commission has been granted a broad mandate to investigate current arrangements affecting public sector compensation, enhance professional standards across government agencies, and propose structural reforms that align the public service with modern technological practices and international standards.
Starting from its opening day, the Commission will begin soliciting feedback and recommendations from trade unions, civil society organisations, and members of the general public. This consultation process forms a key component of the body's approach to developing comprehensive reform proposals.
