Qatar Charity has officially opened a three-storey science laboratory building at Kalutara Muslim Central College, a facility valued at approximately Rs. 83 million designed to serve over 1,500 students across multiple language mediums.

The new science complex at Kalutara Muslim Central College was formally inaugurated by Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof and Khalil Al Mahmoud, the Chargé d'Affaires of Qatar's embassy in Sri Lanka. The project represents a substantial investment aimed at modernizing science education infrastructure and providing enhanced learning opportunities to the school's diverse student population studying in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

The three-storey facility houses four fully equipped laboratories covering Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and General Science, alongside four classrooms outfitted with advanced digital display systems. The complex also includes a landscaped front garden, with all spaces designed to meet contemporary educational standards and safety requirements. According to Qatar Charity, the facility is intended to enable practical experimentation and hands-on investigation that will deepen students' conceptual understanding and foster critical thinking.

Mahmoud Abu Khalifa, Country Director of Qatar Charity Sri Lanka, framed the project as part of the organization's broader educational investment strategy in the country, noting previous support for facilities in Trincomalee and Ampara. He emphasized that educational infrastructure development contributes to sustainable development by equipping students with knowledge and skills for future careers in science and technology fields.

Local and international officials emphasized the significance of international educational cooperation. Governor Yusoof highlighted education investment as crucial to national development, while Chargé d'Affaires Al Mahmoud described education as foundational to progress. MP Nandana Pathmakumara stressed that such initiatives strengthen both institutional capacity and bilateral relationships between nations.
