The Department of Meteorology has indicated that the ongoing rainy weather affecting the island will begin to subside from tomorrow afternoon, August 4th. According to Director General Ajith Wijemanna, speaking at a media briefing on August 3rd, precipitation will persist throughout tonight and into tomorrow morning, particularly in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya Districts and the Sabaragamuwa Province. However, conditions are expected to improve after midday tomorrow.
Showers are anticipated to occur in areas along the western slopes of the Central Highlands during this period. The meteorological office expects the rainfall to ease significantly by the afternoon of August 4th, providing temporary relief to affected regions.
The Department of Meteorology has flagged a developing weather system that may alter conditions within days. A typhoon currently forming over the Pacific Ocean south of Japan is projected to influence Sri Lanka from approximately August 6th onwards. This system is expected to generate several days of rainfall accompanied by strong winds affecting the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya Districts. Residents in these areas should prepare for the anticipated weather shift early next week.
