The order was issued when the suspects were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today, Thursday. The suspects were arrested this morning by officers of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption and Bribery on charges of maintaining links with an organized criminal. In order to prevent the murder of the organized crime boss Harak Gatta alias Nathun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, who was in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department, to provide necessary assistance in removing the suspect's detention order and transferring him to a prison other than the Galle Poosa High Security Prison, and to release him from investigation, the suspects were accused of demanding a bribe of Rs. 50 crore from the suspect's wife, Madushika Madhuwanthi, in Dubai in 2023. The amount was later reduced to Rs. 20 crore, of which Rs. 12 crore was received as an advance. It is noteworthy that those arrested under this charge are Attorney-at-Law Rahitha Nirmala Rajapaksa, son of former Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reforms Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa, Sarith Wasantha Kumara Abeysinghe, who is the Horanai Constituency Organizer of the Samagi Jana Sakthi, and Varusha Hennathike Aruna Sri Chathuranga, who was the former Director of the Civil Aviation Authority and the Sri Lanka Airports and Airlines Corporation.
