A man believed to be closely connected to organised crime figure Kanjipani Imran has been ordered held for 48 hours of police questioning after being arrested in Malaysia and extradited to Sri Lanka.
A suspect known as "Ratmalane Saima" has been remanded in custody for two days of interrogation following his apprehension in Malaysia, the Police Media Division confirmed. The individual, reportedly a close associate of organised crime figure Kanjipani Imran, was produced before the Kandy Magistrate's Court where the detention order was issued. He was subsequently transferred to Peradeniya Police for continued investigation.
The arrest was conducted as part of a coordinated operation between the Walana Central Anti Vice Striking Force, Malaysian law enforcement, and Interpol. The suspect had been the subject of an Interpol Red Notice prior to his capture. Three Sri Lankan nationals were detained in Malaysia during the operation and subsequently returned to the country for further inquiry.
According to police records, the main suspect is a 41-year-old from Ratmalana facing charges in two separate cases before the Kandy Magistrate's Court. The first case relates to an alleged armed abduction and assault incident in Peradeniya in 2014, while the second involves a fatal shooting in 2016. Two additional suspects who were arrested alongside him in Malaysia are scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate's Court on the same day.
