The Road Development Authority has temporarily suspended traffic on nine road sections across Sri Lanka due to adverse weather safety concerns, with the Colombo-Kandy Road's Kadugannawa section experiencing complete closure.
The Road Development Authority announced the temporary closure of multiple road sections on August 3rd in response to hazardous weather conditions affecting various regions of the country. RDA Director General Engineer Anuradha Hettiarachchi confirmed that vehicular movement along the Kadugannawa section of the Colombo-Kandy Road (between 95 km and 99 km markers) has been completely halted from the afternoon due to safety risks in that area.
Nine road sections remain closed to traffic as a precautionary measure. In addition to the Colombo-Kandy Road closure, the affected routes include two sections of the Avissawella-Hatton-Nuwara Eliya Road, the Nawalapitiya-Ginigathhena Road near Culvert 4/2, the Mawanella-Hemmathagama-Gampola Road, and several other regional routes including roads in the Yatiyanthota, Meenagala, and Dolosbage areas.
The authority has advised the travelling public to seek alternative routes where available and to exercise heightened caution while driving, as adverse weather conditions persist across multiple parts of the island. The temporary closures remain in effect until conditions improve and safety assessments determine the roads are passable for regular traffic.
