The National Building Research Organisation has issued red-level landslide warnings for multiple high-risk areas in Kandy, Kegalle, and Nuwara Eliya districts as heavy rainfall continues across central Sri Lanka.
The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has escalated landslide warnings to red alert status for several vulnerable locations as the country experiences persistent heavy rainfall. The highest-risk zones identified span three districts in the central highlands region.
In Kandy District, the red alert areas include Ududumbara, Ganga Ihala Korale, and Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat Divisions. Yatiyantota in Kegalle District has also been flagged at the highest warning level, while Ambagamuwa and Norwood in Nuwara Eliya District face similar red alert status.
Beyond the red alert zones, the NBRO has advised residents in numerous other localities to remain on heightened alert and monitor conditions closely. These include Doluwa, Udapalatha, Deltota, Medadumbara, and Panvila in Kandy; Deraniyagala, Bulathkohupitiya, Aranayake, and Dehiowita in Kegalle; Kotmale East, Kotmale West, and Nuwara Eliya in Nuwara Eliya; and Opanayake, Ratnapura, and Imbulpe in Ratnapura District. The warnings underscore the hazardous terrain conditions across Sri Lanka's central highlands during periods of heavy precipitation.
