Sri Lankan authorities have initiated international manhunts through Interpol for hundreds of individuals accused of serious crimes, while simultaneously repatriating suspects back to the country.

Sri Lanka Police has issued Red Notices through Interpol targeting 236 individuals suspected of fleeing the country to evade prosecution for organized crime, drug trafficking, and related offenses. According to police statements, 96 of these fugitives are categorized as organized criminals involved in significant criminal enterprises.

The police announcement indicates that authorities have made progress in apprehending suspects despite their international flight. Between February 2025 and the present date, police have successfully brought back 37 suspects to Sri Lanka who were involved in organized crime and drug-related offenses. Additionally, 42 individuals have been repatriated to the country with the assistance of Interpol's international cooperation mechanisms.

The use of Red Notices represents a coordinated effort by Sri Lankan law enforcement to leverage Interpol's global network in tracking down fugitives. Red Notices are international alerts that encourage police agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest individuals pending extradition proceedings. The repatriation figures suggest that international cooperation mechanisms are yielding tangible results in bringing suspects back to Sri Lanka for prosecution.
